It has been a year joining this forum. I spent most of my time in improving my composition and is time for me to pick up digital dark room knowledge. Would like to thank all for your valuable comments and wishing all a Happy 2010 New Year

Is winter in NJ and last week, we had 12 inches of snow. This created another set of challenges for me as the white snow will fool the camera exposure meter easily. I need to rely a lot on histogram for most of the snow shot.

I can't upload my photo in normal way and this is the only way to pose.

Hello D-Low,

Looking forward to more winter photos from you. As for me, it's winter here in Japan, but no snow yet. People around here say that my area will hardly get snow. I planned to go somewhere really far away from my place to try some snow photography, however, just decided to give that trip a miss. Due to funding issue. Hehe.

Anyhow, i should be able to meet the snow for the first time in my life at the end of January to mid February, in some places nearer to my location, like in Hakone, Nikko, Tokyo and Kawaguchiko again.

So, again it's you who will lead the winter collections in this forum.

Happy New Year to you too!!

Happy New Year everyone!!

Cheers!!

Thank you Keanpoh. The forum has been very quiet lately. Either ppl are taking their year end vacation and travelling around the world or they got frustrated for not able to upload their photos lately.

Well, i still think forum is a better place to showcase your picture than FB. The picture quality in FB is just not there. Cannot fully express my pictures to others.

As for the extra quietness in the forum, i think mostly is because of the upload problem. At least for me. Wanted to post some pictures everyday last week, but couldn't. I believe there are many that have the same situation as mine and got frustrated. Well, i've now found a new way to post. Hehe.

I like your Pic#4. Wow, frozen stream. I've yet to meet my first drop of snow!! Envy envy...

Looking forward to more winter photography from you. Do give some tips too if you have some. smile.gif

Thank you Clement. The temperature is sub zero and I don't think you would like to stay out for long. I need to insulate my body from head to toe.

You will get your chance very soon but remember, once the day get too bright, youn better stay indoor. Snow shot is not easy, compensate the exposure by 1-2 stop. Shoot at dawn and dusk.

Ha...ha... You need to use your imagination. Is actually a big piece of melting ice and the background is a flowing stream.

Completed my year end vacation and is fully charged up for 2010. Would like to venture out more for more pohoto shooting but the weather was bad. A couple of snow and cloudy days and sub freezing windy temperature. The last 2 shots before I am able to take more in the weekend, if weather permit. Learned some PS techniques today and these 2 shots are edited with layers. Enjoy your fist week of 2010.

Nice winter series D-Low. Hope that weather will allow you to take more pictures and share with us.

By the way, are you living near to these nice places? Or you have to travel to somewhere far for these shots?

*I've yet to experience snow as of today...sad.gif

Indeed very nice Low. All the landscape shots is very nicely composed. You should consider putting them up in photostocks. They makes good postcard pix.

The web giving me a lot of help in finding those places and what I need to do is key into my GPS and drive off. I would say most of the locations I visited are within 30min driving distance (20 - 30 km distance). The boring part will be travelling alone without "photo kaki". Thinking of joining a photo club. Lately, I have been travelling further away to cover new places.

Alvin, how much could you really make from a photo in photostocks? If small value, I will prefer concentrating my effort in improving my skill further for now. Novice in photo editing and using artificial light and this is where I would like to improve. As magma point out about cloning, still searching for the correct workflow. Haha...
