Heya guys, need a little bit of help here. i've managed to install Dark Crusade today but have been unable to start it and this error message kept popping up saying ''Failed to initialize video card'' i've tried reinstalling the game several times but still no change. Then i thought maybe it's my gpu driver that needs updating ,i then did it but still the error msg pops out. Any ideas on what to do?

Check your rig can run DC or not in this site:http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest

If your rig fail the test,it means you need an upgrade.

Dont worry, this site is safe.I have use it for countless times and nothing happen to my com.

Umm.. my gc is Radeon 9250.I can run both DoW and WA but not DC. Is the graphics really more demanding than the previous installments?

Not really. The engine is the same but your GC got more things to draw since there are 7 race in the game.Plus, you need more memory to store your texture.

In my rig,i find the performance has optimised.I can run the game at almost full detail with high quality textures.Other than that, loading seems a lot slower.

Have you did the test for your rig?If you dont trust the site, please post up your system specs.I'll try my best to help you.

No offence, though,in my old gaming rig,the 1.6 P4.That rig used to be able to run DoW but it failed to run WA.This might happen to your com.

Darn. I did't even reached the minimum requirement for the game, i have way too low of RAM only 265 and my Direct X is not up to date. and i forgot to mention that when i tried to tweak the graphical settings this error message pops out ERRORS: spooge driver not found. Verify that Direct x is properly installed. Now what in the world does that mean?

Googling "spooge driver" (I try hard not to laugh) turns up many DoW forum posts.

[DoW] "Spooge Driver" error message
Symptoms: Game won't start, error message stating that "spooge driver not found, verify that directX is installed" is displayed.

Problem: Your graphics card is not being initialized correctly by the game.

Possible solutions:
Before you start your own "spooge driver" thread, please try the following three things.

1. Make sure that your card can actually run Dawn of War. Here's an (incomplete) list:

Cards that will run Dawn of War
-ATI Radeon 8500 and above
-Nvidia Geforce 2 and above

Cards that will not run Dawn of War
-Intel integrated graphics chips
-S3 chip family of integrated cards
-Matrox Parhelia family

Note that there are a few exceptions.
Remember, you need a card that is Hardware T&L capable.

2. Update your video card drivers. This is the number one most common fix for this problem. The latest versions of the video drivers can be downloaded here for ATI cards and here for nvidia.

3. Check if your mainboard chipset drivers are installed and up to date. We've seen quite a few cards running in PCI mode due to the chipset drivers not being installed or totally out of date. This really slows your cards down.

If you have tried all of the above, and nothing has worked, then go ahead and check if someone else has a spooge driver thread open. We don't expect you to go through a month's worth of posts, but if you could just check the thread titles on the front page, that'd be nice.

If you can't find your problem adressed in a thread, create a new one. Create it in the Dawn of War Technical Assistance Forum. Please include the warnings.log and the dxdiag.txt in your first post (see how to find those files here) along with a clear description of your problem.

Try to update your Direct X to the latest version. If im not wrong, the latest version is released on April this year.

If you dont have enough RAM,i dont think you can play already,im sorry to say that.Perhaps a trip to Low Yat to grab another piece of RAM to upgrade your rig.

Yeah you should, even for work, 256 is kinda little if you have a gazillion windows open. 512, or even 1G will be much better laugh.gif

Alamak... oh well nothing can be done then, except for reinstalling Dx. I realize that i am quite short of RAM an in need of urgent addition of it but alas, my budget does not permit me to do so as i've spent Rm160 on a new WD 80gb HD when my old one died a week ago ( a 2nd one this year) . Anyway thanx for the help guys.
